About the tribe

A Waray home for Pekiti-Tirsia

PTKWF Waray – Tacloban is a local tribe of the Pekiti-Tirsia Kali World Federation and a member of the PTK Tribe Alliance. We started so people in Tacloban and Leyte could learn the system at home instead of travelling to Manila or Negros.

Our tribe trains under the guidance of Guro Paul Belleza of the PTK Sumuroy – South Caloocan Tribe, with regular sessions that connect our local training to the wider federation.

What you'll train

Blade first. Everything follows.

Pekiti-Tirsia is taught from the blade outward: the same footwork and angles carry over from stick and knife to empty hand.

01

Footwork

Triangle stepping and body positioning that every technique depends on.

02

Single stick

Solo baston: angles of attack, blocks and counters, the base of the system.

03

Double stick

Doble baston: two-weapon flow, timing and coordination drills.

04

Knife

Daga: close-range blade work, taught with trainers and strict safety.

05

Stick & dagger

Espada y daga: long and short weapon working together.

06

Empty hand

Blade principles applied to strikes, disarms and control without a weapon.

Common questions
Do I need any martial arts experience?
No. Most people start from zero. The fundamentals are taught step by step.
Is blade training safe?
We use rattan sticks and training knives, with drills that build up control before speed.
What's the minimum age?
There isn't one. If you can follow instructions, treat your training partners with respect, and are healthy enough to move around, you're welcome. Our youngest member is 13 and our oldest is 71, and both are women.
Is my training recognized by the federation?
Yes. As a PTKWF tribe, our curriculum and ranks follow the World Federation's standards.
